When Life Is Busy
Have you noticed that no matter how quickly you get through things, or how much you do, there is still lots to do on a daily basis? It’s almost as though something fills up that void as quickly as you try to empty it again.
When we are constantly busy we make little time for God, just thinking ‘I must get this done first’, or ‘I’ll just get that out the way’ and before we know it another day has passed and we still haven’t achieved what we wanted to get things out of the way for.
You know that feeling, don’t you? So do I, and so I constantly strive to develop a routine for bible reading, for prayer, for reading other things relating to my faith. I’ll go weeks and months in a routine and it all fits in nicely and then something comes along to upset it and I’m back to my old ways again, fighting to get that time back.
Mary had the right idea and I wonder just how much she went through, to feel that she could just sit down at the feet of Jesus, and soak in all He had to say and not worry about anything else. Did she have in the back of her mind that she would go help in the kitchen later, after she had heard what Jesus had to say? It’s possible - what woman doesn’t have other things going on in the back of her mind?
How much better do we feel when we just stop, sit down, be still and know our God? I know, you know it, and yet we still let things get in the way. Why not give it a try today? Why not right this minute? Sit still, be quiet, let your mind go quiet, and then meditate on God’s Word or seek Him for what He would have you do right now.

Wow, I just came across your blog and I really like it. You have managed to write in an open and faithful style that I really admire. I have started a new blog and am not exactly sure which direction it will go- but I love that you have a focus on spirituality. I will look to your articles for inspiration.
I am at http://newleaftimes.blogspot.com/ and http://motherhood-2.blogspot.com/

Thanks Kelkat, so glad you like it. Make sure your visit Proverbs31-woman.com too! I co-write this blog with my friends Sandra and Chrissi - we all attend the same church. It’s so good to align our faith with every day living and this is what we are doing with this blog. I’ll drop by your blogs too!

Great blog… awesome insight. I had someone come to me recently and say, ” I know you are so busy… but…” I could not hear anything else they said I was caught on how they viewed me - So Busy!! God gave me an attitude adjustment right there and I now no longer have a busy life - but a BIG life that I am living in a Big, Rich, Full way and I am loving it!

Thanks Joanne. I always respond with ‘ah but, if you want something done, ask a busy person….’
Well that seems to be the way people think isn’t it?
I was at a Christian business breakfast this morning and the speaker quoted (paraphrased) from Proverbs 4:25 about “don’t look left, don’t look right, but look right ahead” and he was saying how easy it is for us to lose focus because there are so many things we could be doing.

At least you guys have a legitimate excuse.
This is what I’ve done when I’m not close to the Lord or in a funk….
First of all, I’m married (newlywed), no children, and not working. I have no schedule whatsoever. My hubby is rarely home because he’s a truck driver so I can pretty much do what I want, when I want. I’ll tell you how evil I’ve been….I actually INVENT things to do - anything as long as I DON’T have to spend time with the Lord. I don’t know why I do this because I love spending time with Him in prayer and study. But I go through these periods where I’d rather do other things to fill up my day and they’re all useless.
Then…when I do get back in the game, sometimes it’s hard to keep my brain quiet so I pray for a quieted spirit, that He help me focus my attentions on Him only. I do other things to make sure I’m not distracted like turning off my phone, I make sure I eat something so I’m not starving and thinking about food, feed kitty etc. The Lord always helps me.
God bless,
Carol

Last week I wrote a piece on “Mary and Martha - the rest of the story” that is at http://members.aol.com/Sftrail/christ/comment/studies/mary-martha.html
It fits what you were writing about, too, I think.
Happy New Year.
